Getting rid of prostitution: saving our community and our women

Category: Interesting, Society

Is prostitution something that must be considered legal or illegal? Countless strip clubs, gentlemen bars and cheap massage parlors as well as red light streets are well stocked with prostitutes. They may be willing or possibly unwilling to provide sex and other sexual favors to men and even women in exchange for money. Perhaps it may be legal in other countries because of their concept that prostitution does not inflict harm, thus producing no victims as all parties are consenting adults. But, this may not be the case everywhere. Prostitution involves different situations and conditions, resulting in atrocious crimes, fatal health conditions and the violation of human rights, fit for a lifetime sentence behind bars.

Who Are The Victims?

Just because you may find women strutting their stuff along a red light district or dancing away in a gentleman’s club does not imply that they are freely offering their bodies for sexual services. In fact, quite a number of these women are simply forced to work as prostitutes, while others have been in the business for so long that they do not know where to seek help in fear of being rejected and ridiculed.

The victims in prostitution are the women themselves. Most of them have been repeatedly raped by countless unknown men and even by their pimps, while suffering from severe physical assault in prostitution. Though there are those who have tried to escape, most of them have only ended up being assaulted with a weapon. Others suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder and quite a number living on the streets stay fed by selling their bodies at night.

The Will To Sell Themselves

When the victims have been forced into prostitution and find themselves with no forms of escape, they loose the ability to even consider if they are willing or unwilling to engage in such crimes. Some women are dominated by their pimps that they are often beaten up when they attempt to escape, while those who are forced into the crime by family members are left with no other option but to give in or else die in starvation or raped by their abusers.

The Dangers Of Prostitution

When prostitution exists in our community, our daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, cousins and friends are not safe. Men who fall weak to their sexual urges and taunts of peer pressure end up getting infected with AIDS or HIV and unknowingly infect their loved ones. When prostitution is not eliminated from our neighborhoods, we end up promoting:

  • Battery
  • Rape
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Verbal Abuse
  • Racism
  • AIDS/HIV
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Domestic Violence
  • Male Domination
  • Violation Of Human Rights

Prostitution has been around for a long time and law enforcers strive to control it by imposing stricter laws and regulations, placing countless of men and women behind bars without bail for years. Prostitutes who were forced to sell their bodies, but determined to change are given a new chance at life after extensive counseling. When we all cooperate with the law and act upon it, we will be able to reduce and finally eliminate prostitution.

As prostitution causes harm to every women of all ages, acting against it is essential. All forms of prostitution either as high priced escorts or as cheap street wares, are illegal and dangerous. Without prostitution, sexual crime rates will drop, women will regain their dignity and our daughters will be able to safely walk the streets at any time of the day or night.
